Building Careers Building Communities Employer Day

Building Careers Building Communities Day was held in Townsville with employers from different community organisations including ages care, disability care and juvenile detention. Clients interested in these careers were encouraged to attend.

Learning New Skills in Traffic Control
Clients gained accredited knowledge and skills in traffic control management for promising future work prospects.
Joshua Hits the Gound Running
Joshua spent much of his teenage years in and out of juvenile detention with no tangible goals or work skills. Over time Joshua built rapport with Q.I.T.E. staff and his attendance and engagement increased.

Initially Joshua had no employment history or job seeking skills but Q.I.T.E. staff gave him one-on-one Job Club sessions where they provided mentorship, increasing his confidence, motivation and independence to job search.

Joshua's first successful position was an entry level seasonal harvesting job and support was provided by Q.I.T.E. by means of organising transport to and from work.

From this first job, Joshua started working towards full time work in the professional cleaning industry by acquiring the licenses and certificates required by an organisation who was interesting in hiring him. Q.I.T.E. assisted with arranging a pre-employment police check and enrollment in a First Aid/CPR course which Joshua has since successful competed.  Joshua commences his new is full time job in March.

From Joshua - "I would not be where I am today without the support and help from Q.I.T.E. Staff".

From his employer - "Joshua has hit the ground running. Reliable and eager to learn"
A New Career Begins
Nicholas has a passion to have a career in mechanical work. Q.I.T.E. worked with him to set goals and identify ways in which he could progress towards his dream job.

Nicholas was originally part of the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program with Q.I.T.E. and was following apprenticeship programs. Through his motivation and dedication he has achieved a major milestone towards his mechanical career goal.

Nicolas was successful in securing a full-time position as a Tyre Fitter at a tyre and auto mechanical service center, giving him the best possible environment, guidance and mentorship to continue to learn and grow toward his mechanical career dream.
A Dream Job That Came True
Ezekiel was living in a challenging environment that negatively affected his mental health. Q.I.T.E. built rapport and trust with him and in time his confidence grew. Ezekiel was referred to housing services that assisted him to obtain other more suitable long-term housing and provided him with a referral for mental health support.

Ezekiel became more confident within himself and attended regular Job Club sessions, finding purpose and structure. Q.I.T.E. continued to increase job seeking and interview skills during appointments and identify industries of interest, including undertaking reverse marketing for entry level roles.

Ezekiel expressed interest in obtaining employment in the traffic control industry as a steppingstone towards his long tern career goal of working in Youth Detention Centres. He was successful in gaining short-term employment with the provision of work boots and work clothes via Q.I.T.E. and the Employment Fund.

Shortly after this this initial position, a full-time youth detention role became available. Q.I.T.E. assisted Ezekiel with his job application and he was successful in being appointed to the position. He commenced full time in a career which he states will provide other young people with guidance and support which is something he always wanted to do.

From Ezekiel - "I never thought I would be here, working in an industry that will provide me with the ability to help others! Thank you Q.I.T.E. Staff".

From his employer - "Ezekiel has started off strong! We are excited to see his capability in this industry."
